Patriot General Proud to Support IID’s Avenue 42 Substation Upgrade

Patriot General Engineering is proud to be a part of the Imperial Irrigation District’s (IID) Avenue 42 Substation Upgrade Project, a critical energy infrastructure investment that represents the first of four major power projects designed to support the continued growth of the City of Indio and the greater Coachella Valley.

On January 6, 2026, IID and the City of Indio officially broke ground on the Avenue 42 Substation Project, marking a significant milestone in a forward-looking partnership between IID and the Indio Electric Financing Authority (IEFA), which was formed in 2023. Together, these projects will ultimately provide enough power capacity to energize approximately 16,000 single-family homes, strengthening reliability, redundancy, and long-term energy security for the region.

The Avenue 42 Substation Upgrade is a $12 million project that will add a third transformer bank to the existing facility, significantly increasing capacity to meet current demand and future development needs. Construction is expected to be completed by late August 2026, setting the stage for additional joint projects that will further modernize and expand Indio’s power infrastructure.

As a company committed to building resilient, future-ready infrastructure, Patriot General Engineering is honored to contribute to a project that directly supports economic development, housing growth, and essential services. Investments like the Avenue 42 Substation are vital to ensuring that growing communities have reliable access to power—today and for decades to come.

The Avenue 42 Substation is just the first step in a broader initiative that includes several additional IID-led projects under the Coachella Valley Power Agency Joint Powers Authority (JPA), such as the Avenue 40 Substation, Carreon Substation Expansion, and the Northgate/Avenue 43 Project. These efforts, along with IID’s ongoing investments across the Coachella Valley—including new substations in Thousand Palms and upgrades in La Quinta—demonstrate a strong, collaborative commitment to regional progress. Patriot General Engineering takes great pride in working with organizations like the Imperial Irrigation District, the City of Indio, and Henkels & McCoy West whose leadership and vision are helping to power sustainable growth and economic opportunity throughout the region. We are honored to play a role in infrastructure projects that strengthen communities, support local businesses, and help build a reliable energy future for Southern California.
