Patriot General Hires Five SD Competitive Edge Candidates

In an effort to promote hiring practices and provide career opportunities that encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion in the utility sector, the San Diego Competitive Edge program recently held its annual career training, trade skills development, pre-apprenticeship, and job fair cohort. Each year SD Competitive Edge identifies 20 San Diego County resident candidates between the ages of 18 and 30 years old who have experienced cultural displacement, to take part in the six-week train-to-hire program. The training curriculum includes a weeklong labor intensive bootcamp, OSHA certifications, resume writing, and interpersonal skills development course.

As a founding partner in the SDCE program, Patriot General once again took part in this incredible program. Along with several other company representatives in the utility industry, Patriot General’s Chief Administrative Officer, Ben Garcia, and Director of Marketing, Doug Sampson, interviewed and met with each of the candidates at San Diego City College. After nearly three full days of interviewing, Patriot General is excited to announce that they have identified and offered positions to five of the incredible candidates as either underground technicians, fire safety officers, or yard apprentices.

San Diego Competitive Edge (SDCE) is a solution aimed to grow our business’s community engagement while simultaneously combating social inequities. Equally as important, it provides businesses with top-level, motivated employees. The training and mentorship that the program offers truly sets SDCE candidates apart.
